THE URINE DANCE OF THE ZUNI INDIANS OF NEW MEXICO...

Russell Ash y Brian Lake reúnen una serie de títulos en torno a epígrafes como "Double entendre": Games you can play with your pussy de Ira Alterman (1985), The line of cleavage under Elizabeth (Dom Norbert Birth, 1909),Queer shipmates (Archibald Bruce Campbell, 1962), Old Dykes I have known(P. R. Charnley, 1996), Single-handed cruising (Francis Bernard Cooke, 1919),Five years hard (Frank Percy Crozier, 1932), Penetrating Wagner's Ring(John Louis DiGaetani, 1978), Erections on allotments (George W. Giles y Fred M. Osborn, sin fecha), Cock tugs (W.B. Hallam, 1963), Men who have risen: A book for boys (Ed. J. Hogg, 1859), Boobs as seen by John Henry(George Vere Hobart, 1914) y Big Dick, the King of the negroes (Harry Hazel, pseudónimo de Justin Jones, 1846), entre otros.
A veces, el interés de los autores recae no tanto en el título sino en los curiosos vínculos que establecen entre sí, título y nombre del autor: Claude Balls (autora de Shy men, sex and castrating women, 1985), Walter Russell Brain (Diseases of the nervous system, 1933), Mary Breasted (Oh! Sex education!, 1970), Geoff Carless (Motorcycling for beginners, 1980), W. Chappell (The preacher; or, The art and method of preaching, 1656), William Cockburn (The symptoms, nature, cause, and cure of a [sic] Gonorrhoea, 1713), Margaret Coffin (Death in Early America: The history and folklore of customs and superstitions of early medicine, funerals, burial and mournings, 1976),  A. Dick (Inside story, 1943), Paul J. Gillette (Vasectomy: The male sterilization operation, 1972), John Goodbody (Illustrated history of gymnastics, 1983), Anna Mews (Care for your kitten, 1986), Reverend E.I.D. Pepper (Spices from the Lord's garden, 1895).
Tampoco los títulos singulares escapan a los autores: The fangs of suet pudding (Adams Farr, 1944), Gay Cottage (Glance Gaylord, pseudónimo de Ives Warren Bradley, 1866), Dildo Kay (Nelson Hayes, 1940), The bride wore weeds (Hank Janson, pseudónimo de Stephen Daniel Frances, 1950; Janson era el autor también de Lady mind that corpse, Sweetie hold me tight, Slay ride for cutie y Honey take my gun), Fine weather Dick (Caroline W. Leakey, 1882), Gay agony (Harold Alfred Manhood, 1930; otros libros de Manhood:Nightseed, Fierce and gentle, Crack of whip, Maiden's fury y Lunatic broth),The day Amanda came (C.T. Reeves, 1971), The negro's ring (Philip Scott, 1954), Christie's old organ (Mrs. O.F. [Amy Catherine] Walton, 1882), My poor Dick (John Strange Winter, pseudónimo de Henrietta Eliza Vaughan Stannard, 1888). Ash y Lake no descuidan los libros de enseñanza de idiomas: el agramatical The new guide of the conversation in Portuguese and English in two parts de Pedro Carolino (que incluye los siguientes ejemplos incomprensibles: "To build castles in Espagnish" [sic], "The mountain in work put out a mouse", "To eat of the cow mad"; 1869), What to say when you talk to yourself (Shad Helmstetter, 1982) y Correct mispronunciations of some South Carolina names (Irene y Claude Neuffer, 1984).
La singularidad de los títulos incluidos en Bizarre books se encuentra también, en ocasiones, en sus temas; insectos y animales: The second-hand parrot: A complete pet owner's manual, Mattie Sue Athan y Dianalee Deter, 2002; Sex and death in protozoa: history of an obsession, Graham Bell, 1989;Ducks, and How to make them pay, William Cook, 1890; Canadian national egg laying contests, F.C.
